Support Housing at 1617 U St NW

After years of work, the DC Zoning Commission is poised to upzone a parcel of city land at 17th and U St NW for high-density mixed-use development. The new development - which currently houses a police station, fire station, and a parking lot - could include 200 units of housing with 30% designated affordable, a new public library, and renovations to the current facilities. This neighborhood is currently unaffordable, with a typical home price running over $1 million. Apartments would bring valuable new homes to market and help keep spiraling costs under control. Unfortunately, there is a concerted effort to block the city's ability to move forward with this project . (Learn more about the proposed development and the opposition here.)

How to help

We strongly encourage you to submit a brief written comment in support of the upzoning by November 19th.

Here's a sample comment: I live in DC in [your neighborhood/Ward]. I support the map amendment to allow for more homes, affordable homes, and public amenities at 1617 U St NW.

If you prefer to submit your public comment through the official DC portal you can follow the instructions at this page.
