- X · We've endorsed 119 ANC candidates all across DC. Some of them would like your help this Sunday morning to turn out votes! These are hyper local races. Even a dozen votes - or a few hours of canvassing - can shift a race. Sign up here! https://t.co/8jVmEttt9M
- Bluesky · This is an empirical fact in DC. Always remember that the loudest voices opposing housing are not representative of the community. ggwash.org/view/101935/...
- Bluesky · Great to see this resource updated. It's been indispensable the last few years!
- X · 9 YEARS of delay. Endless process is a major driver of unaffordability in DC. We can't solve the housing shortage if straightforward projects take a decade.
- Bluesky, X · The mayor has proposed a bill to build housing and a new library in Chevy Chase. DC YIMBYs and our partners at @betterdcregion.bsky.social, Ward 3 Vision, and WIN support this bill. Tell your CM to support the Chevy Chase Disposition Approval Act (B26-0801). www.smartergrowth.net/news-parent/...
Instagram · Join us for our next happy hour to meet other pro-housing District residents and get involved! This is a great opportunity to meet fellow YIMBYs in DC and deepen our understanding of local housing issues.- X · If you missed it, we did an explainer video on the comprehensive plan, which will guide housing in DC for the next generation.
Instagram, Bluesky, X · Will Janeese Lewis George follow in Zohran Mamdani's pro-housing footsteps? That’s the question at the heart of our new video, produced by @kirengopal. DC is rewriting its Comprehensive Plan, the blueprint that guides how our city grows. Learn about the plan and what we're pushing for. #YIMBY #JLG #zohranmamdani
Bluesky, X · Good question on the other site so porting the response thread here. Why are we pushing for sixplexes on every lot? Why not focus on transit-oriented development? Short answer: it's not either/or. We need both, and we need to enable both in the upcoming comprehensive plan rewrite. Longer answer.. 🧵- X · A lot of people don't appreciate how strongly rates of homelessness correlate with housing costs. More than any other factor!
X · This is a real missed opportunity. Interest rates are what they are, but the Council should be looking at options to reduce the barriers to building in DC. https://t.co/EIACXVAVqP- X · Very important step here. Will be important how these neighborhoods are actually zoned, but this gives DC a lot of flexibility. I wonder if folks in adjacent neighborhoods realize how much property value they're losing out on by being left moderate density.
- X · We have a tough environment right now but worth noting that restrictive zoning is an issue here. We require at least 50% of the ground floor space in this area to be used for retail, which has led to high vacancies. Possible the original plan would have worked without this rule.
- Bluesky · DC should really leverage the comp plan/zoning reform to take advantage of the funding in this bill
How we work

Reform the rules
Back zoning reform and streamlined permitting so more homes are legal to build, especially near transit and jobs.

Educate & engage
Turn out residents to the meetings that matter and make it easy to take a pro-housing position on local projects.

Build partnerships
Work with neighbors, labor, faith groups, and builders toward a shared abundant-housing agenda.

DC YIMBYs is a chapter of YIMBY Action.
One of the local groups organizing for more homes across the country, backed by the national team.
